OVERVIEW
Maal MFI was established to address gaps in both the formal and informal business sectors, including MSMEs, and to tackle the barriers women in business face in accessing financial services. These barriers include collateral requirements, lack of asset ownership, absence of identification documents, outdated credit analysis systems, a deficiency of innovation, and insufficient financial education and support. Maal MFI was formed by a collection of leaders in the Somali financial sector, motivated by the desire to address poverty, improve access to financial services, support youth, women, and local entrepreneurs, and unlock the potential of microfinance.

Maal MFI is dedicated to fostering sustainable development and financial inclusion. Our mission is to empower the underserved—particularly women, women in business, and MSMEs—by providing innovative and accessible financial and educational services. We achieve this through a customer-centric approach that encourages active participation from all of our stakeholders.
VISION STATEMENT
Our vision is to be a beacon of economic empowerment and resilience that transforms Somalia’s landscape through financial inclusion. We aim to build a future where every individual can access the financial tools they need to thrive and contribute to a prosperous, equitable, and sustainable society.
